According to Confucius, one of the greatest artist of life, there is a proper and luxurious way of lying in bed: never straight like a corpse but curled up on one side. The fetal position conforms to modern thinking as the best sleeping position for one's psychological and physiological well-being.
The bedroom is perhaps the most intimate part of the house. Here we come to recharge our energies, be completely relax and embrace our true self. The bed is our vessel to dreamland and our wombs to awakening.
Ideally, the bed should be cater corner to the door for the widest perspective and the ability to see anyone who enters, thus ensuring smooth and balanced ch'i flow.
I like beds on platforms surrounded by pillows like divans. In the austere bedroom above, an 18th century Thai Buddha stands serene and is the only decoration. The narrow surrounds of the bed serve as storage.
I normally color the bedrooms in a passive or neutral tone to make it relaxing. If the living room is yang of the house, the bedroom is yin. In this bedroom however, the rather active color scheme is the choice of the client. The bed has an ultra suede headboard and a base that slides out for storage. Covering the bed is Missoni style jacquard fabric. Below the Thai silk Roman blinds, framed with rounded wood moldings, are shoe storage.
The elevated bed for a bachelor doubles as divan by day. Black pearlized marble hems the bed and becomes a writing top. Metallic glazed fabric upholsters the bed and the banquette matched by the blue grey ultra suede of the bed frame and ottoman. Dark blue mirror adds visual depth and dimension to the r oom.

A young lady wanted something tailored for her bedroom. Light lavender colored glass tops the dressing table that continues to the low headboard. Texture printed fabric wraps the padded wall panels interspersed by matching silk cords. The pair of silk and dry flower arrangements mounted on clear acrylic stands serve as headboard feature.

A child's bedroom avoids a design cliché. Traditional Japanese architecture was my inspiration when I created this bedroom for an eight year old boy. Grey carpeted false columns and beams demarcates the mattresses. Inexpensive and washable stripe ticking covers the mattresses.

To define an awkward space and to maximize the natural air flow, I constructed a Chinese inspired bed in the middle of the room. The fixed panel in the center of the bed simulates a window and has side grills to circulate the sea breeze. A pair of antique Chinese scrolls flank the opening to the bed alcove.

A gleaming four-poster brass bed in a secluded alcove of a Master Bedroom Suite exudes Eastern serenity. It is a bed ready to use left uncovered except for the personalized bed sheets and pillow cases. Hanging on one of the walls is a portrait of the owner by Claudio Bravo. Antique Chinese rugs accentuate the beige carpeting.
This master's bedroom subdued and mature color mood is a take off from the Jim Thompson Thai silk that covers the beds. Behind the bed in a lighted alcove is a tryptic artwork balanced by a pair of Thai headress in mirrored niches. The Tai Ping carpet gives warmth and comfort from the cold granite used in the entrance and bathroom.
FROM THE READERS "Very beautiful and inspiring! I greatly enjoyed reading your background and interests. I am curious how you came to the Way. I have been searching for years and have found the feeling of "home" in the Dharma."
