Pied á Terre
Silk lotus Arrangement inside a half circle clear acyrlic box.

Yin and yang merge together into one creating the universal situation. The moon [yin] comes out and as it recedes, the sun [yang] rises, then sets equaling one day, and this moon sun interplay goes on naturally and constantly creating the Tao of heaven and earth.

The romantic Mid Autumn Festival comes on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. Round "moon cakes" eaten on this festival are symbolic of family unity and closeness. I was inspired by the moon festival when I designed this pied á terre for a Filipino couple. Above: The half circle clear acrylic box filled with silk lotuses casts a moon-like reflection on the the grey glass dining table top.

Living Room I
Behind one of newly built banquettes, I punched a circular hole to match the mirror on the other side. It is a play on the yin and yang concepts of "full and empty." The niche is the yin with its void space while the mirror is the yang, solid. Round shapes are auspicious to the Chinese as they represent money.

Living Room II
The taupe and mauve color scheme are almost monochromatic. The bold lines, suggesting the masculine yang, counterpoints the approach to subtle color, feminine yin. A large silk floral arrangement inside a niche echoes the colors of the room.

Living Room II
The small bedroom feels larger by the use of bronze mirror on both sides of the headboard. A Filipino oil painting, hanging in the center of the recessed wall behind the bed, gives the room a national affinity.

Study-guest room Dressing table Left: A narrow sofa bed is fitted in the corner of the study cum guest room. The painted wooden slats conceal a window type air conditioner. Right: The dressing table is simple and and made light by the use of glass and mirrors. The clear acrylic folding chair from France follows the transparent feel of the glass top.
