Concept Renderings

Most hotel design presentations invariably require colored perspectives. From concept to realization is a long way so that renderings serve as aide memoir for carrying on the project. They are useful for the client and the various trades involved in understanding and absorbing the feel of the design concept.

Furama Hotel, Royal Suite Living Room Concept I made this rendering for the Furama Hotel's Royal Suite in 1973 when the hotel first opened. Contemporary approach unifies the overall concept of the entire hotel. There are no conventional seating arrangements but seating units in suede.

Furama Hotel, Royal Suite, Living Room The living room relates to the original concept. Sculptural elements include an antique wooden Kuan Yin or Goddess of Mercy, and the Taccia Lamp by the famous Italian designer Pier Giacomo Castiglione. Fortuny fabrics from Italy line the walls. Gold leafed fishes swim seemingly on a smoked glass dining table.

Furama Hotel, Royal Suite, Bedroom Concept The rendering of the Royal Suite bedroom shows the built-in banquettes and the simple bed treatment. The lacquer finish of the banquette frame has a pleasing contrast to the velvet upholstery. On the right is a concept for a display case but edited in the execution.

Furama Hotel, Royal Suite, Bedroom Here is the realized concept of the bedroom. The subdued dark celadon color scheme contrasts the lively color scheme of the living room.
