Color Coordinates

View of HK Central district from the balcony. Color is one of the most subjective element in design. While I have my own color moods and periods, I always ask a client if they have certain color preferences. This project is departure from my usual subtle and muted color schemes as the client wanted bright colors with strong contrast to express a fresh, bold and youthful interiors. The color scheme we came up with is warm yet cool; calm yet perky; au courant yet classic. It is yin and yang.

Dining room looking towards the living room and balcony. The saffron colored accent wall in the dining room contrasts with the dark green leather chairs echoed in the living room. The table centerpiece is a Japanese red lacquer bowl adding another color to the room. Beech wood vertical panels delineate the dining and living room.

I designed this simple glass topped dining table to continue the lines of the interiors. The custom made beige Tai Ping carpet offsets the bold colors and the wood finishes. I designed a simple glass and beech wood dining table to match the other furnitures.

To coordinate the existing teak parquet flooring which was refinished, beech wood was used extensively for furniture, cabinetry and other interior elements. The large artwork by a local artist harmonizes with the color scheme.

Harsh, sharp edges are replaced with curvaceous lines, with both the hard and soft furnishings given matching circular contours. Panels of solid forest green peek from behind the free standing cabinets and sofas, creating a bold backdrop for the owner's interesting artefact. The green also blends artfully with the green and sunny yellow hues of the soft furnishings.
