Flowering Frisco

A composition of hallow birch bark, green timothy, and green apples

One of my more memorable activity in San Francisco, California when I visited in the fall of 2003, was to go to the flower market. My host brought me to the market early in the mornings to feast our eyes with fresh flowers from all over the world. Unlike the outdoor flower markets in Bangkok and in Hong Kong, where they are tourist destinations by themselves, the flower market in San Francisco are in big warehouses and are for-trade-only.

Right: A composition of hallow birch bark, green timothy, and green apples on a glass topped table.

San Francisco indoor flower market. Above left and right: two shops in the San Francisco Flower Market. Below: are the different arrangements we did born out of our expeditions to the flower market. The setting is in the flat of my hosts in San Francisco. Run your mouse over the pictures to read additional captions.

Fresh autumnal arrangement in a large glass vase compliments the Ayuthia Period Thai Buddha head. A dry arrangement made to match and balance the collage artwork beside it.
