Vessantara Jataka - Giving Away the Horses
The gift of the elephant angers the people and drives Vessantara and his family to exile. The palace scene shows the royal family in a classic posture of sorrow. Outside the palace, servants cry. The man sleeping and the black background inside the palace indicate evening time. The middle scene shows the family leaving the palace drawn by four white horses. Along the way, they encountered a group of people begging for the horses. The bottom scene shows the horses being taken away.
